Tiina Tuunanen on kokenut silmätautien erikoislääkäri, joka toimii optikkoliikkeissä sekä lääkärikeskuksissa ja tuntee suomalaisten silmät. Juuri silmien kuivuminen on noussut viimeaikoina kasvavaksi ongelmaksi.
Ophthalmologist Tiina Tuunanen knows what causes dry eyes – recommends getting treatment
Pharmacies offer over 30 products for treating dry eyes. Many factors contribute to dryness, from the northern climate and the need for heating to hereditary factors. However, Tuunanen believes that one reason clearly comes out on top.
”In work and leisure, we increasingly look at things from about a meter away, and the human eye has not adapted to this. Physically, we are still hunter-gatherers, for whom distance vision has been more important,” Tuunanen says with a smile.
IPL is a comfortable and easy way to improve your well-being
The surface of the eye has always been a professionally fascinating topic for Tuunanen, and over the years he has also gained experience in laser surgeries, where eye dryness and sensitivity are constantly monitored.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) phototherapy improves the function of the Meibomian glands and opens clogged pores in the eyelids. IPL treatments have long been used in the field of dermatology and cosmetics, where they have also been familiar to Tuunanen. Like the skin, it is important to keep the surface of the eyes in good condition for your own well-being.
”Dry eyes are caused by many things that are difficult to rule out. If you suffer from uncomfortable eye irritation symptoms almost every day, and moisturizing products do not provide sufficient relief, you should definitely try IPL treatment,” Tuunanen advises.
Fast relief for obvious symptoms
“I heard about IPL treatments coming to Finland through a professional channel and immediately thought I had to try it,” Tuunanen says.
At the time of the interview, several treatments had already been completed, the symptoms had remained under control and the edges of the eyelids were soft. The various products tested for eye care had been replaced by occasional eye drops.
”It’s not a challenging or complicated thing, and you can even have the treatment done during your lunch hour. Burning, a feeling of grittiness and swelling of the eyelid edges are clearly helped by the treatment, the cosmetic effect is visible immediately and for some the treatment also helps with eyelid cramps, it’s definitely worth trying,” Tuunanen sums up.
